Movement For Mia

Difficult news to tell your 4 year old … telling Mia her hands and feet won’t get better.

Today Pete and I told Mia that the doctors can’t make her hands and feet better. She cried and then asked for the TV to be put on. I think she is using TV as a distraction and coping method. She is very quiet a lot of the time, hardly smiling, not answering many questions and not engaging in much eye contact. This is of course understandable considering the high level of pain medications she is on and being stuck in a hospital room unwell with numerous doctors and nurses prodding her all day long. I hope in time she will become our beautiful happy Mia again. Surgery for her amputations have been tentatively booked for this Friday and then the following Tuesday. She will likely have below elbow and below knee or through knee amputations. My heart breaks so much everyday for her but forward thinking is the only way to cope with this. I’m sure future prosthetics will be amazing and Mia will adapt. We are looking into a fundraising page but it’s not ready as yet. Also, we have enough meals for a week or so at the moment (I’ll let you know when we need more!). Thank you so much to everyone sending their love and support. We feel so blessed to have so many wonderful people helping us through this difficult time. xx

  7. Miss Mia has had to go through so much it really is so unfair, I can not even begin how hard it was for you guys having to tell her about her hands and feet not getting better. You guys are doing such and amazing job though and I am sure over time your happy girl will return. We will continue to pray, hope and wish for a quick recover from these surgeries and that rehabilitation goes well too. You know we are here if you ever need us for anything. Xxx

  8. Amy Wilkinson and Peter Wilkinson we wish u the very best outcomes for these ops…… when Amelia had her head op at 1yr old we were told don’t expect miracles….but we did…and we have a beautiful daughter.
I expect Mia will have miricles she never thought possible too and be a beautiful daughter for you both with time to heal as well…
Pete as a father and a bloke its hard to tell your daughter u can’t fix it for her….but I’m sure you are doing the best you can…keep it up mate as young Mia needs a strong mum and dad as well…..
its hard for all of us to completely understand yours and young Mia’s pain and uncertainty about the future…. but as has been said before everyone is here for you……even if only for you to ring and yell at us about what a crap deal it is…….we will listen and in a very small and minute way give u some relief……little jon

  9. A fundraising page will be great. I will love to be able to help out in a little way. In the mean time I will continue sending love

    1. We were all set to put one up when we discovered they take 7.5% of every donation and charge us transaction fees! We would also get locked in contractually which could limit future fundraising opportunities. So just making sure we do due diligence xx

  11. Think of you every day. You are so right to be so positive. We all feel so lucky this beautiful one is still with us. I know it’s early and brutal days but I can tell you, the most inspirational and beautiful person – inside and out – that I have ever worked with was Aimee Mullins. Out of adversity and an incredible family and supportive friends along with a super brain – this incredible swan blossomed. Please read her inspirational story. Sending you love and hugs always. X
